Meh.
The bun is a slightly denser variety than average, almost like a sourdough minus the flavor. The patties are thicker towards the middle and flatten out considerably before terminating in nice crispy edges, but again... The meat is far from flavorful. The cheese lacks any defining characteristic and does little to elavate the overall experience out of blandness . At the end of the day, this sandwich is all show, no go.
Better burger than McDonald’s and Fatburger, but far below Wendy’s, Five Guys, and even Jack-in-the-box.
One of the pricier options too, just below Five Guys’ spendy (but delicious) burgers.
Also in the running for worst fast food French fries I’ve ever had. You can tell me they’re not your garden variety frozen food section fries tossed in a microwave, but I won’t believe you.
Final verdict: 2.5/10 - would not reccomend, even as a 2:00am drunk delivery order.

Yeah, I hate their fries. Definitely not worth waiting in line for.
![]() 06/23/2020 at 21:19 |

Wow, those fries look soggy and sad.
Unfortunately, Wendy’s has set the bar with the Baconator for fast food. With Jack in the Box’s steady decline, I don’t think there will be a contender for quite some time.
That said, because I’m cheap my usual go-to is just two McDoubles.

I had it once...I have zero idea how they are routinely compared to In-n-Out...not even close. Shake Shack is a greasy, salty overpriced mess. Go to DQ and get two better burgers for that.
![]() 06/23/2020 at 21:24 |

Yep, I’ve never gotten the hype. Their burgers are average but overpriced and their fries are crap
![]() 06/23/2020 at 21:24 |

They used to have hot dogs covered in beer battered and fried shallots. They were beyond amazing
![]() 06/23/2020 at 21:24 |

Give me $0.99 doublestacks back plz. And yes, the fries are lacking any kind of crisiptyness

Is this a place people normally wait in line for ? It’s n ew to this area, and was empty when I got there.

I haven't had In-N-Out so can't compare there, but yes, I'd much prefer DQ. And I don't even find DQ burgers to be that great.

See, that sounds good. Or at least interesting

When I was in NYC, they always had lines. Quite possibly they understand that the rest of the country won’t put up with that.

I find DQ and Wendy’s offer the best fast food burger experience (nationwide) that tastes like a hamburger. In-n-Out is some kinda secret voodoo good I can’t explain. I liked Whataburger too but not national. 5 Guys is in the conversation if they are national...but I feel like they are regional.

Agreed. I was pretty upset when I got the meal after knowing what I’d just paid for it.

I had the same verdict when I tried it for the first time in February. It was good, but for $5 less I could go to Five Guys and get a meal I enjoy just as much.

Went once a couple years ago , burger was alright, fries meh, shake was good. FGuys burger is better. Would rather go to Grub Burger Bar for the same cost - great burgers, fries/onion rings , and shakes (lov e their adult shakes).

I don’t eat that stuff but my friend said he tried it when they came here last year and he said meh too.

I’ve had good experiences there but I always get the SmokeShack, which strikes me as their most unique burger and seems like a good deal within their menu. I like the idea of wiggly fries and they’ve always been nice and crispy for me but I have heard mixed reviews. They have a great shake menu even if the execution isn’t particularly outstanding. Overall I think would go there frequently enough if there was one close to me.

You go to DQ for Blizzards.

And cheese curds!

I forgot there was one of these in your neighborhood. I’ve been to these in the midwest/southeast. As you say, meh. Steak ‘n Shake is better IMO, I wish we had a real one here, not the odd tiny tourist trap one in downtown Seattle.
I am not a burger person, give me a Blizzard and fries and I am set.

We just got our first Shake Shack last year. Personally, I’m a big fan. The Smoke Shack is my go to (those red peppers are great). I enjoy the fries as well, though they aren’t necessarily particularly noteworthy. But I will say ours always seems to cook them well and they’re always hot and crispy. And their coffee shake just makes me happy.
I do enjoy Five Guys as well, but given the choice, I’ll pick Shake Shack over F ive Guys . And I'm not a huge fan of In-and-Out, but I've only had it I think twice ever.

That looks like a minimal amount of effort was expended to make that burger and shirt on seasoning.

Ask Ttyymmnn: you go to DQ for the steak basket.

I personally think the hamburger as a thing is overrated. I like crinkle-cut fries generally, and they’re uncommon in fast food. Best fries: 5 Guys. People can disagree with me, but they are incorrect.

They have those now? Oh shit.
Speaking of that, my favorite midwestern spot for a tasty maybe not so healthy meal:

Five Guys and Shake Shack are overpriced for decent fast food burgers. Shake shack shakes suck.
![]() 06/23/2020 at 22:51 |

Ive always liked shake shack, if you completely ignore the price. That is hard to do though so I think its outrageously overpriced. You gotta try some whataburger in texas! I still prefer the simplicity of In N out but whataburger is damn good when I had it in florida last year. The fries and sweet tea really sold it for me though.

My first job was as a janitor there. Free food, and I don’t believe I’ve had a slider in the 30 years since .

right... it’s hard for me to enjoy spending $20 on a takeout hamburger/fries/drink. McD’s really needs to do their 2 fillet o’fish for $5 deal again. I like Wendy’s but our local one takes 4 hours to get in and out of the darn parking lot...
![]() 06/24/2020 at 00:28 |

Mc Donalds is about ordering the cheap stuff like taco bell, not worth the extra $. Wendys is baconator as the day is long. I dunno Red Robin with bacon and egg is my fave if I have to do a chain burger. Fries are always hit or miss wherever you go. Theres a local dive bar with a decent green chile cheeseburger and some fine crispy tater tots though

I took the kids there last summer because we were out and hungry. It had been a long time since I’d last had one. They were good. I mean, not good good, but good in a satisfying way. I like that they don’t pretend to be anything better than “ it’s 3:00 am I’ m stoned and I’m hungry” .

I like a good smash burger and enjoyed shake shack the couple of times I’ve eaten there. My burgers were always eaten fresh and I’ve always had to wait in line.
In n out I feel has inferior fries, they’re just about the worst in the business. But I think their burgers are very good .
Five guys is probably my favorite. They have excellent fries as well.

why do fast food places all have those sad soggy soft buns?
seriously....a burger is so much nicer on a nice fresh hard bun

I took the kid there regularly when I lived in NYC—the one on the upper west side, the one by union square, and the one at City Field. Haven’t been to the one in Seattle yet. Never liked the fries* but the shakes were great and the burger to get was the one that combined one beef patty and a grilled portobello mushroom stuffed with cheese. I love In-n-Out—I stop for a double-double animal style every time I drive to California or back—but that Shake Shack combination monstrosity might take it for me. Anyway, I’m surprised the bun was disappointing—that was always a strong suit. For the local fast-food-burger-gone-upscale contender, have you been to Great State? Interested to hear how you think it compares. The fries still suck though. Which:
* What is it with the good/trendy fast-food burger places and the fucking fries? Shake Shack, In-n-Out, Great State, and for that matter, old school local favorite Dick’s (not actually great, but good memories growing up here)...all terrible fries. McDonalds, Burger King, etc: utterly inedible burgers, great fries. Very mysterious.

Did you move? Cuz I know there aren’t any White Castles around where I think you are!
And are you in agreement with me that Whataburger is very overrated? I think me saying that is why I got ran out of Texas. lol

Solid point on the fries. I’m starting to wonder if the Kirkland Shake Shack just has poor cooks..?
Have not tried Great State, I'll add it to the list. Tonight I'm stopping at my favorite butcher shop in Juanita, maybe I'll pick up some ground beef and try the other end of the burger spectrum.

Everything is overpriced :/ go into a random bar nearby and chances are a burger will be $17.

It’s always struck me as the type of place that people go to because it’s trendy, not because it’s good. The closest one to me is about an hour away, so I’m never gonna do that.
Even though you didn’t ask even a little bit, here’s my burger preferences :
Fast food: Wendy’s, all day. All of their sandwiches are good. I also think they have one of the best fries out there. Always get Saucesome sauce if they have it to dip fries in. IMO the second best fast food sauce, after BK’s Zesty sauce.
Fast casual: Smashburger. When I go, my order is always the kid’s cheeseburger meal, add all veggies, and three PBRs. 75 cents a can, so fuck it.

Haven’t had their burger. Have only eaten from the ShakeShack at JFK while waiting for a flight at 7am, so was a breakfast sandwich. Remember it being really good, but I might also have been hangry.

No, you’re right. It was when I was visiting my family in Indy. But you can get White Castle in the freezer section at the store sometimes, which I think is crazy.
Whataburger is...okay. Really, it’s fine. I’d rather have DQ, I think. But I know better than to say that out loud down here.

Below Jack in the Box? Wow. That said, I haven’t eaten at JIB in many years. If I’m doing full-on fast food, I’m going with Whataburger.

The discussion here got me interested in In-n-Out, so I looked on their site and saw that they offer the 4x4, which is four patties and four slices of cheese. This is the “nutritional” information for that hamburger:

Ooof. That’s even worse than KFC’s notorious double-down sandwich.

Dude, I work at Shake Shack. I really enjoy the burgers but the price is a bit much (doesn't hurt business, tho). But how do you not LOVE the shakes?!
![]() 06/25/2020 at 18:28 |

I’ve only had one shake , so I could have just gotten a bad one, but it just seemed like generic fast food shake to me. I like diner style ice cream shakes where the ice cream is still chunked up a bit.
